To enjoy and maintain the longevity of your new hair extensions, it is essential that you are aware of, and follow these maintenance guidelines:
General care
- Please do not wash your hair within 48 hours of the hair extensions being applied.
- Expect to see small quantities of naturally released hair trapped in the
bonds after some time. This is normal and should not be interpreted as hairs
being pulled out of the scalp by the extensions themselves. - If you experience any bond slippage or discomfort, contact us right away to determine the cause to remedy the situation.
- To prevent tangles, tie your hair back in a loose plait or ponytail before sleeping. A silk or satin pillowcase will help your hair move freely while you sleep.
- No not perform any chemical services to your extensions. Please consult your stylist, if you wish to tone or darken your extensions.
- WARNING: Sunscreen & tanning lotions,
Please be mindful when using sunscreen and fake tanning products, as they may affect your hair extensions. Some have been known to cause discolouration, staining and damage to the hair extensions. Please avoid getting these products onto your hair extensions as the damage can be irreversible.
Washing
- Only use hair extension-safe salon quality hair products. A list of recommended products are at the bottom of this page, and can be purchased in salon at Rhiannon Jade Hair Artist or through the online shop.
- Avoid brushing wet hair; squeeze excess water from the hair with a towel, apply a leave-in conditioner to the mids & ends. Then gently use your fingers or a wide-toothed comb, starting from the ends & working your way up to the mids of the hair, avoiding the bonds.
- Always thoroughly dry your hair extensions after washing. Dry on a medium setting & finish off with a cool shot once the hair is fully dry.
- Do not go to sleep with wet hair extensions.
- A mild purple/toning shampoo may be used on extensions, but use minimally as possible to avoid unwanted colour build-up & staining. Always do a test strand first.
Brushing
- You should brush your hair extensions at least twice per day.
- Brush your hair extensions starting from the ends & working your way up with a soft bristle brush or wide-toothed comb. Section the hair to brush underneath where the extensions are attached.
Wefts & tapes: Avoid brushing/combing over where the extensions are attached, this will help avoid matting.

Styling
- With tape-in extensions, avoid using oil-based hair products where the tapes are attached.
- You may use hot styling tools on your extensions. You must make sure to always use a heat protectant and always avoid the bonds of the extensions.
Swimming
- Chlorine & salt water can be harsh on your extensions.
- When swimming in chlorinated or salt water, tie your hair up to avoid wetting the extensions where possible or, before swimming: fully saturate the hair with clean water first and apply a leave-in treatment to act as a barrier.
- Wash, condition and apply a leave-in moisturiser to the hair extensions after swimming.
